2nd International Planetary Probe Workshop
AUGUST 23 - 26, 2004
NASA Ames Conference Center
Moffett Field, California USA

NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California, USA welcomes you to the 2nd International Workshop on Planetary Probes.

You will find our workshop site very suitable, inviting and full of aeronautical history! The NASA Conference Center is located in the center of the NASA Research Park. The NASA Research Park is being developed at Moffett Field, as a dynamic research and development campus for partners from academia, industry and non-profit corporations with shared goals in support of NASA's mission. Future growth of the NASA Research Park will enable research collaboration in astrobiology, information technology and nanotechnology, as well as educational programming in science, technology, engineering and math.

Moffett Field is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, just 40 miles south of San Francisco. Construction of the complex that stands today as NASA Ames Research Center and Moffett Federal Airfield began in the 1930s with the establishment of an airbase for dirigibles. "Hangar One" is still a very visible landmark today.

NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) was founded December 20, 1939, as an aircraft research laboratory by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and in 1958 became part of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). ARC specializes in research geared toward creating new knowledge and new technologies that span the spectrum of NASA interests as well as having a rich history in pioneering these research areas.

Some of the places you might wish to visit while at our complex include:

  • The Mars Center. The Mars Center has just been opened at Ames to coincide with NASA's Mars Exploration Rover landings on Mars in January 2004. Find out more about the Mars Center
  • VIP tours may be offered on one of the workshop days
  • Potential Tours: Arc-Jet Complex, Wind Tunnels or other Ames Simulators
